Pool Stain Help

Swimming pool water is amongst the harshest environments known. It see's the coming together of many different aspects of the building process, all contained within tens of thousands of litres of water, acid and chlorine, to say the least. So much so that it deserves its own category here on our informative site.

Ensuring the pool water is kept balanced is not only important for an enjoyable and safe swimming season but extremely important to the longevity of the pool surface, pool tiles and all the pool equipment. Poorly maintained water can quickly cause irreversible damage to the pool components, mainly to the pool surface which is generally the largest area of a swimming pool structure. Chemical negligence can go even further and can attack the structural integrity of the pool itself.

Poorly maintained pool water can be hard to see, as often the water can look reasonably clean and clear, making the first sign of an issue appear on the tiles or more common the pool surface. By this stage if the issue is left for longer, it can be very stubborn to remove or worse, not removable at all.

Un-balanced water occurs when the key water chemistry (like, but not limited to, the PH, Alkalinity, calcium and chlorine levels) are not in sync with each other. This then turns the water against the components of the pool surface and grout which can lead to many different types of stains developing.

The initial 6 weeks of a new pool surface install are critical to ensure the longevity of the pool surface. Unfortunately, Ero Pools has seen pool surfaces from many installers damaged within weeks of application due to this and unfortunately for the client the damages are not covered under product or fair trading warranties due to negligence by pool owners.

Pool stains can appear in many ways and forms.

  • They can be dark grey, yellow, white, brown , metallic amongst other colours
  • Can be the result of calcium efflorescence (calcium starved water/or calcium high water causing the suction of calcium from the pool plaster or growth of calcium over the plaster and tiles)
  • Metallic stains
  • algae stains
  • General dis-colouration stains

Ero Pools hands over every pool interior with a comprehensive care guide on how to maintain and keep the pool and its components looking magnificent for many years to come.
